Draft 2027 Basin GSP Amendment:
As part of the state-mandated Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) Periodic Evaluation (PE), Santa Margarita Groundwater Agency (SMGWA) determined the need to amend its approved GSP that was submitted to the Department of Water Resources (DWR) in January 2022. The Board of Directors approved the draft 2027 Basin GSP Amendment at their October 22, 2026 meeting. The final version will be released no later than January 3, 2027.

Approved 2022 Basin GSP:
Under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, one of the key responsibilities of SMGWA was the development, adoption, and submittal of a Basin GSP to the DWR. The
Basin GSP was adopted by the SMGWA Board of Directors on November 17, 2021, and submitted to DWR on January 3, 2022. On April 27, 2023, DWR approved the Basin GSP.
